Gearmotors

... for a wide range of drive tasks in industrial environments

The drives are characterised by low speeds, high torques and flexible adaptation options for various installation situations.

In the geared motors category you will find helical, worm, bevel and parallel shaft gearboxes with three-phase motors. The power range extends from 0.06 to 45 kW with torques up to 16,000 Nm and speeds from 0.1 to 400 rpm.

Powerful filters in the 4 product catalogues help you to select the right product and you can configure your drive with the extensive options and add-on components (mounting positions, motor protection, brakes, forced cooling fans, incremental encoders, etc.).

To shorten the delivery time, you can select the express production option and the express shipping option for stock items.

Quick & easy product selection - here's how it works:

Frequently asked questions

Design and economic factors must be taken into account when selecting the gearbox type. If there are no space restrictions and the driven machine is to be coupled with a solid output shaft on the geared motor, helical geared motors in a foot-mounted or flange-mounted design are the first choice. Due to the lateral output, worm geared motors are a good alternative for confined installation spaces and medium torques. The flexible design of the output shaft as a hollow or solid shaft provides additional application options for worm geared motors. Bevel geared motors offer the same advantages and also realise high torques and efficiencies. Shaft-mounted geared motors - also known as shaft-mounted gearboxes - also offer a flexible alternative for tight installation spaces with their hollow or solid shafts.

The most important selection criteria are rated voltage, motor output, rated torque, output speed and the gearbox coefficient. If radial forces occur on the gearbox output shaft, these must be compared with the permissible values. If mounting dimensions (shaft, flange) are to be adhered to, you can use the extended product filters in the gearbox catalogues for quick orientation.

The gearbox coefficient - also known as the service factor - is an important criterion for the design of geared motors. It defines how much the gearbox can be mechanically loaded in relation to the nominal torque. The level of the mechanical load depends on the degree of shock (mass inertia of the driven machine), the running time and the switching frequency and is described by the service factor fB. The gearbox coefficient cG should be selected to be equal to or greater than the service factor fB. Further information can be found in the document "Information" on gearbox design".

There is no standardised norm for the mounting dimensions (shaft height, shaft, foot bores, flange) of geared motors as there is for standard electric motors in accordance with the IEC standard, for example. If mounting dimensions are to be adhered to, the extended product filters for shaft and flange dimensions can be used in the gearbox catalogues.

The oil filling quantity of the gearbox is determined depending on the installation position. If the installation position is changed at a later date, the oil fill quantity may need to be adjusted. The required information on oil fill quantities and oil types can be found in the operating instructions for the respective product.

The position of the terminal box and the position of the cable entry can be defined in the product configurator. The terminal box can also be retrofitted with a little effort.

Yes, all products are supplied with the right amount of oil for the selected installation position. Oils for the usual range of applications are used as standard. If required (wider temperature range, higher load capacity, age resistance and food compatibility), other types of oil can be selected or supplied in the configurator or on request. Further information can be found in the operating instructions for the respective product.

Mechanical holding brakes can be configured as an option for all geared motors. The brakes are designed as DC-excited electromagnetic disc brakes that open electrically and close by spring force.
Braking torque:
The braking torque is displayed during brake selection. With KEB geared motors, different braking torques are available for most brakes. The braking torque on the output shaft is calculated by multiplying it by the transmission ratio i.
Braking voltage:
With HYDRO-MEC products, the brakes are controlled via a rectifier with 230V/50Hz/1~. For KEB products, 230V/1~, 400V/3~ and additionally 24V DC (without rectifier) are available as brake voltages. The brake connection terminals are located in the motor terminal box. The brake voltage is supplied via a separate cable or, in the case of 400V, can also be taken from the terminal board of the motor winding.
Manual release:
For maintenance and adjustment work, the brakes can also be released mechanically using an optional hand release. Operation is via a hand lever, which can also be removed if required.

In non-critical applications, the use of a brake can be dispensed with in individual cases. For a reliable braking function and if safety aspects have to be taken into account, the self-locking mechanism cannot replace a brake.

All geared motors are generally suitable for operation with a frequency inverter. If output frequencies significantly higher than the nominal frequency are to be realised, the suitability of the respective product should be discussed. At low output frequencies, the motor may overheat due to the reduced cooling capacity. We recommend the use of motor protection (PTC thermistor or microthermal switch). At output frequencies below 25Hz, it may be necessary to use a forced cooling fan. Various incremental and absolute encoders can be selected for speed feedback with KEB geared motors.
